Laurel Hikes the Appalachian Trail for Sean Casey Animal Rescue

Please join us Saturday April 7 for a cause we cannot be more enthusiastic about. Sean Casey Animal Rescue has touched the personal lives of many of our staff and customers over the years. Our longtime friend and regular Laurel Haflin-Schuler will soon be hiking the Appalachian Trail to raise money for this wonderful organization. We at The Gate will be putting up special kegs at a discounted $5 pint price, with all proceeds going to SCAR. Read about Laurel’s adventure below, and we hope to see you here on April 7.

On April 29th, I will be heading to Georgia to start an adventure of a lifetime. I will be hiking approximately 2,200 miles on the Appalachian Trail. The trail runs from Georgia to Maine, crossing 14 states, and has an elevation change that is equivalent to climbing the 29,035 foot Mount Everest 16 times! I have decided to use this crazy adventure as a way to do some good within my community. I am raising money for a local organization that is very dear to my heart – Sean Casey Animal Rescue. Sean casey is a no kill shelter specializing in the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of dogs, cats, reptiles, birds and small mammals. They take in rescued, confiscated, neglected, injured, ill, unmanageable, or otherwise unwanted animals from private owners, zoos, shelters, and other public organizations. They are one of very few rescues who take in the most difficult medical cases. These animals are cared for, and/or rehabilitated to the best of their ability and means until which time they can be found healthy, happy homes – whether it be through adoption to qualified candidates or legally released into habitats suitable to the specific species in conjunction with licensed wildlife rehabilitators. In addition to all of the hands-on work with the animals, they are a family friendly place focused on educating pet owners and animal lovers about the needs and responsibilities of pet ownership. They strive to educate the public about respecting, understanding and coexisting with the natural wildlife of New York City through various programs and events. Sean Casey Animal Rescue has played a huge part in the community for many years. They have saved thousands of animals and I have decided to use my Appalachian Trail hike to help save even more animals lives.
